Summer is near!

Hello all!
We meant to post a blog prior to Mother's Day to congratulate all moms! But, things got really busy at the shop! So... Happy Belated Mother's Day!!

Here is a little fact about Mother's Day:
After her mother died, Anna Jarvis began a campaign that brought about the observance of Mother's Day. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed the order that made Mother's Day a national holiday.

Official Mother's Day flower? White carnations!

With warm sunshine peaking through the clouds here and there, it really feels like summer is near! We were having a bbq at my daughter's house the other weekend when I realized she was cutting mint from her garden for the salad! If the mint's here, summer's definitely near!! :)

Mojito is one of my favorite summer drinks! It's such a refreshing cocktail!! So we thought why not make it a gelato? We played with our delicious lime sorbetto recipe and added some fresh mint to it... and voila! No alcohol in this one, but it is just as good and even more refreshing than what you get at the bar!

Cheers!

Bring on the Guinness

That is Guinness Gelato... One our favorites! If you did not try it last year, make sure you don't miss it this year!

"So... How many bottles of Guinness do you put in?" I ask mom.

She smiles "If you are thinking of getting drunk on gelato, you would have to eat a lot!!!  We mix in about two to three bottles per batch (8 quarts). Guinness really has a distinct flavor, and makes for a delicious Gelato. This year we will start serving it on Wednesday, the 9th"

Happy St Patrick's Day!!

Happy New Year!

Happy 2011!
When you are happy to come back home, you know you had a great vacation!

We began our trip in Istanbul - Stayed with some friends, ate at their new restaurant Meze by Lemon Tree, visited the ancient spice market, and fed seagulls from the ferry crossing Bosphorus.

Sevim's brother and his wife joined us on a 5 day trip to Rome. In Rome we walked everywhere, visited churches, fountains, monuments, ate everywhere, and made short stops at every gelato shop we passed by!

Then, we went to Izmir to relax and visit with the rest of our family and old friends.

We feel refreshed and ready for the new year!!

Our poll shows that Pumpkin Spice  was the most popular gelato of Fall season. So we will continue making it until the end of January! :)

See you all at the shop!
